Everyone knows that April 15 is “Tax Day” but what does it really mean?  In the United States it’s the last day for individuals to file their income tax return for the previous year.  According to the 16th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, “The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.”  In other words, the federal government can collect a percentage of whatever income you make to help support the United States. Walter the Vault had a special appearance at the Family Financial Literacy Fair on Saturday, March 2nd, 2013 from 10am-1pm at the Half Hollow Hills Community Library, Dix Hills, New York. About 130 families participated at the fair encouraging children and families to learn about financial literacy.

There were a number of booths and activities for children of all ages including writing a check at a bank, playing supermarket, ordering at a drive through food establishment, designing a bank, creating money origami, learning basic money terms, and much more. A popular booth was Walter the Vault, teaching children about allowance, saving money and how to unlock your dreams by answering what you want to be when you grow up. READ MORE
