Family financial literacy fair 3/2/13

March 5, 2013

Walter the Vault had a special appearance at the Family Financial Literacy Fair on Saturday, March 2nd, 2013 from 10am-1pm at the Half Hollow Hills Community Library, Dix Hills, New York. About 130 families participated at the fair encouraging children and families to learn about financial literacy.

There were a number of booths and activities for children of all ages including writing a check at a bank, playing supermarket, ordering at a drive through food establishment, designing a bank, creating money origami, learning basic money terms, and much more. A popular booth was Walter the Vault, teaching children about allowance, saving money and how to unlock your dreams by answering what you want to be when you grow up.

Kids enjoyed meeting and taking pictures with Walter the Vault and founder, Karen Tenenbaum. There were many smiling faces when kids received their very own digital bank! It was such a great turnout and a great way for children to learn about earning and saving.

Special thanks to the Children’s Librarian, Monica Salo and the Half Hollow Hills Community Library for hosting this great educational and fun event!

Also special thanks to Clyde Davis of MSG Varsity for videoing the event, Karen Seader for providing money songs and entertainment, Long Island Tax Professionals Symposium and Bob Goldfarb for sponsoring the Walter the Vault table, AICPA for the giveaways, all the volunteers, and families for coming out to the event.
